Chef Meeta Makhecha

Meeta Makhecha is one of Pune’s few women restaurateurs, and has managed to establish a great food brand, The Flour Works in a little over three years. Meeta started The Flour Works restaurant in January 2012 in Kalyani Nagar in Pune, before the neighbourhood was such a popular destination.  The restaurant has gained popularity quickly due to the great ambience, delicious European-style food, and the easy and relaxed vibe.

 

Meeta brings in her tremendous experience working with world-renowned master chefs to the elaborate setup at The Flour Works. While Meeta was studying in culinary school, she also worked in Chef Roland Passot’s La Folie, a critically acclaimed restaurant located in San Francisco. Chef Roland and his wife Jamie opened La Folie in 1988 and, year after year, La Folie continues to be rated among the top restaurants in the USA.
Once she had completed her culinary school, Meeta worked with Laurent Gras, a French-born chef at The Fifth Floor, a then exclusive fine dining restaurant in San Francisco. Following her time at The Fifth Floor, she worked with Micheal Recchiuti, a self-trained chocolatier, who founded Recchiuti Confections and mastered the art of chocolate-making.

 

Meeta moved back to her hometown Pune in 2007 and has consulted with several restaurants and food businesses. Meeta holds a degree from California Culinary Academy, San Francisco, USA.

 

She started The Flour Works by herself, with the help from friends and family. The venture is self-funded, and Meeta is looking to expand to other areas in Pune shortly.
